October 2021 - The Future of Electrification in Massachusetts

Just recently, Governor Charlie Baker signed an Executive Order which establishes a Commission on Clean Heat to advise the Administration on strategies and policies to achieve deep emissions reductions from the use of heating fuels in the Commonwealth. The Commission, the first-of-its-kind in the United States, will establish a framework for a long-term decline in emissions from heating fuels, consistent with the findings from the Administration’s 2050 Decarbonization Roadmap.  The Roadmap addresses greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the commercial and residential building sectors, which is on keen interest to Energy Engineers throughout the Commonwealth and rest of New England.

Speaker Bios

Chris Porter is the Director of Customer Energy Management, New England at National Grid. In this role, he oversees the teams responsible for energy efficiency, demand response and heat decarbonization strategy, policy and planning in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Collectively, these programs deploy over $500mln per year in supporting National Grid’s 2.5 million New England customers reduce their energy bills while supporting company and policy maker objectives around achieving greenhouse gas emission reductions and increasing grid resiliency.
Previously, Chris was the Director of Utility Services at EnerNOC, where he led teams responsible for the delivery of commercial and industrial demand response, customer engagement and strategic energy management programs to utility customers. Chris has also held various energy consulting, advisory services and market research roles at Cambridge Energy Research Associates, Charles River Associates, and with PHOTON Consulting. Chris received a BA with Honors in Political Science from Brown University and holds an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

Rebecca Hatchadorian is an Associate Principal at Arup with over 17 years of experience driving a more sustainable built environment. Rebecca works to optimize environmental and human outcomes with project teams which range from mixed-use masterplans, to higher education, commercial office, residences and labs. Her experience has evolved to larger City and portfolio decarbonization planning work on projects such as Carbon Free Boston, and the Massachusetts Decarbonization Roadmap, and the City of Cambridge. She is on the Board of Directors for Built Environment Plus and is a LEED and WELL AP.
