MEET THE SPEAKERS

Jim Doughty - Associate Director of Industrial Hygiene | Environment, Health, and Safety Office

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Jim Doughty is the Associate Director of Industrial Hygiene in the Environment, Health, and Safety Office at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with 25 years of experience. He is co-lead of the Building Energy Team as part of MIT’s Climate Action Plan, and also serves on MIT’s Safe and Sustainable Labs Team.

 

Jennifer Ballew - Sustainability Project Planner 

City of Cambridge

Jennifer Ballew is a Sustainability Professional with a focus on Laboratories, Research and Life Sciences. She also serves as a Consultant with My Green Lab, a non-profit organization focusing on education regarding sustainability in laboratory and research settings. Prior to the City of Cambridge, Jennifer was Green Labs Program Coordinator at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She managed multi-disciplinary and interdepartmental efforts campus wide to encourage sustainability, energy efficiency and resource management within research laboratories at MIT.

 

Jeff Chase - Senior Director of Facilities

BioMed Realty

Jeff Chase is a Facilities and Environmental Engineer with experience in management and projects of many sizes. He has a deep background in energy savings and energy efficiency initiatives, and is experienced in creating maintenance plans and all aspects of facilities maintenance. Jeff has proven corporate leadership and the ability to work cross functionally with many different teams to bring tasks to successful completion.

 

Darrell Interess - Senior Manager, Safety & Facilities

LabCentral, Inc.

LabCentral is a Cambridge, MA based non-profit that offers a network of fully permitted laboratory and office spaces for as many as 125 start-ups comprising approximately 1000 scientists and entrepreneurs. Along with a hard-working team, Darrell manages LabCentral's building operations, facilities support services, and safety programs. He acts as project manager and provides strategic support for renovations and new build-outs. Darrell founded LabCentral’s sustainability initiative, and led recent capital improvement projects to modernize lab building infrastructure, including air handler replacements, VAV controller upgrades, and a 1,000-fixture LED lighting retrofit.
