The Association of Energy Engineers New England Chapter will be holding the Annual New England Energy Awards Night at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Waltham.  This event will recognize excellence in Energy Management for 2014.  AEE-NE will recognize the important work that is being done in energy efficiency and energy management by individuals, organizations, agencies, and corporations in New England.  This year we have an independent panel of judges who have selected three winners and three runners up in these categories:

Comprehensive Energy Project of the Year:

Smutty Nose Brewing Co. was founded in 1994 and distributes beer to more than two dozen states, Europe and Asia.  In conjunction with Until, GDS Associates, Compressor Energy Services and McHenry Architecture, Smuttynose Brewing completed construction of a new plant, using sustainable construction techniques and manufacturing practices to reduce energy consumption.  For their commitment to sustainability and innovation have been recognized by AEENE with the award for Comprehensive Project of the Year.

First Runner Up:  The TD Garden - Siemens team was a very close runner-up for Comprehensive Project of the Year.  TD Garden is home to the NHL Boston Bruins, NBA Boston Celtics and many other high profile organizations and events.  Siemens designed and implemented a broad initiative to address aging equipment and new technology opportunities in order to deliver comprehensive, short and long term savings.

Innovative Energy Project of the Year:

Cains Food is a well known food production and distribution company that began in Boston around 1915.  Cains hired IMEC to install a new air compressor.  IMEC and Cains, in identifying additional problems in the process, were able to improve on available or existing systems to deliver a truly innovative heat recovery solution. Cains and IMEC won the Innovative Project of the Year award for development of their customized compressed air heat recovery system.

First Runner Up: The Northwest Building at Harvard – Siemens team was a close runner-up for Innovative Project of the Year.  The Northwest Building consists primarily of laboratory space and is fairly new to Harvard University’s vast building portfolio.  The facilities department, with support from Siemens, designed a highly innovative solution to reduce the over ventilation of these lab spaces and instead provide a more appropriate air change rate.

Energy Engineer of the Year

Dave Chamberlain and the Facilities Engineering and Energy Conservation department at Raytheon won Energy Engineer of the Year.  Since 2002 when Raytheon joined the Energy Star program, the company has reduced overall energy consumption company-wide by over 17% by engaging employees througout the company.  Dave and other staff also bring their expertise to other companies through the Energy Star Partnership.

Each of the winners and runners-up will give a short presentation about their work and results, so in addition to honoring their success, we all will have a chance to learn from some of the best energy engineers in our region

Admission fee includes dinner and a networking hour, in addition to the presentations.
